Dr. Nancy L. OwenOur hospital staff is lead by medical director Dr. Nancy Lewis Owen. Dr. Owen was born in Newton, MA and received a B.A. degree from Smith College in 1970.  She then preceded on to graduate with a veterinary medical doctorate (V.M.D.) from the University of Pennsylvania in 1974. She has been practicing veterinary medicine in Northampton since 1974 and has been the sole owner of the North King Animal Clinic since 1976. Dr. Owen married Matthew Owen in 1985.  Together they have one son, Brandon, who is currently a high school student.  Her professional interests include general medicine and surgery. At present, the Owen family has 2 wonderful therapy dogs (Chelsea & Joy), 8 cats (Arrow, Simba, Bill, Hilary, Nomar, Daphne, Romeo, & Bailey), and 6 guinea pigs (Sawm, Frodo, Pippin, Gimli, Arwen, & Ella).

 

Christopher L. NorkusChristopher L. Norkus, BS, CVT, VTS (ECC):  Chris serves as the clinic’s practice manager and nursing supervisor.  He is a certified veterinary technician in Massachusetts and holds a B.S. degree in veterinary/animal science from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. He is currently the only veterinary technician specialist (V.T.S.) in western MA and is one of only a handful of individuals in the country board certified in the specialty of veterinary emergency and critical care nursing (www.avecct.org). Additionally Chris is an active member in several professional organizations, including being a committee member for the veterinary technician anesthetist society and the academy of veterinary emergency and critical care.  He is a responding medical member of the State of Massachusetts Animal Response Team (www.smart-mass.org) and publishes regularly.  His application for specialty board certification in anesthesia is currently being reviewed by the academy of veterinary technician anesthetists (www.avta-vts.org).  Lastly Chris enjoys spending time with his two overzealous Labrador retrievers, Renegade and Paddington Bear, and his elderly Siamese cat Hermione.

Lauren JenkinsLauren Jenkins, MS, CVT: Lauren serves as a clinic senior veterinary technician.  Previously she had worked in the surgical department at the MSPCA/Angell Memorial Western New England in Springfield, MA. She is a certified veterinary technician (CVT) in Massachusetts and holds a B.S. degree in veterinary/animal science from the University of Rhode Island.  In 2005 she also successfully completed a M.S. degree in veterinary/animal science from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst!  She currently performs most of the dental prophylaxis and dentistry procedures here at the clinic.  Her professional interests include dentistry, radiology, and surgical assisting.  She regularly attends continuing education in her fields of interest.

 

Tracy TougasTracey Tougas, CVT:  Tracy joined our nursing team as a veterinary technician in Summer of 2005.  She is an alumni of the veterinary technology program at St. Petersburg College in St. Petersburg, Florida and is a certified veterinary technician (CVT) in the state of Massachusetts.  Before joining our staff she worked in Ft. Myers, Florida for 4 years in a small animal and avian practice.  They she frequently saw all types of small animals, pocket pets, birds, exotic species, and reptiles.  From there she traveled to Fredericksburg, Virginia where she worked in veterinary emergency medicine for 3 years. Now back in her native New England, Tracy enjoys spending time with her family and well of family pets.  She holds the professional interests of veterinary nutrition and laboratory technology.

 

 

Matthew OwenMatthew Owen was born, raised, and schooled in Northampton, MA.  He attended Holyoke Community and Greenfield Community Colleges.  Matthew married Dr. Owen in 1985.  Today he works regularly at the North King Animal Clinic as a veterinary assistant.  In his spare time he enjoys smooching animals, visiting nursing homes and area hospitals with the family's 3 therapy dogs, and going for long dog walks at Look Park.


 

Rosanne RisnerRosanne Risner, AS, CVT: Rosanne joined the North King Animal Clinic in Spring of 2005 as a veterinary technician.  She completed a rigorous externship at the clinic and received an associate’s degree in veterinary technology from Holyoke Community College in early 2007.  Rosanne proudly became a certified veterinary technician (CVT) in Massachusetts in 2007.  A long standing Northampton resident, Rosanne lives at home with her husband, three children, three dogs, and several cats.  Her professional interests include rehabilitation, animal behavior, and wildlife medicine.

 

 

BrendaBrenda Robertson: Brenda warmly provides the clients of North King Animal Clinic with excellent reception and client service skills.  Having graduated from the veterinary technology program at Holyoke Community College in 1986, she has worked in the veterinary field for over twenty years.  With a wealth of veterinary knowledge, Brenda provides our clients with excellence in customer service and a sincere interest in the health care needs of pets.  She is the proud owner of 1 dog and 4 cats.
