Veterinary Surgery
Veterinary surgery demands the confidence of long experience and the ability to feel empathy with a sick or wounded dog or cat.
At least that’s how Dr. Nancy Lewis Owen and her team at the North King Animal Clinic see it.

As a fully operational vet clinic where fostering a homelike feel is important, these qualities make each and every surgical procedure a unique treatment for the pets that come into surgery with their owners from all over Western Massachusetts.
We are equipped to perform operations suitable to both minor and severe issues, from feline declawing and spaying / neutering to soft tissue and organ surgery. Our post-up service includes long-term or intensive care and hospitalization when needed.
Central to any surgical treatment is safe and professionally administered anesthesia. At North King Animal Clinic, our resident veterinary anesthesiologist follows the protocols set out by the
American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and the
Academy of Veterinary Technician Anesthetists.
The use of sedatives, tranquilizers and general anesthetics are effective pain management tools during surgery on your cat or dog. By monitoring blood oxygenation (pulse oximetry), heart rate (electrocardiogram), carbon dioxide concentration (capnography), blood pressure, and temperature, we can ensure that your loved companion is safe at every step during the administration of anaesthesia.

There are a range of anesthetic pharmaceuticals available today: opiod class drugs, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), local anesthetics drugs and regional nerve blocks, NMDA antagonists, transdermal pain relief, and constant rate infusions (CRI).
Surgery is personal. To talk more in depth about a potential surgical procedure involving your animal companion, please feel free to give us a call and we will try to answer any questions or concerns you might have.
